Sandy Hill staff and students participated in Black Excellence Day. As a lead up to Black History Month, Black Excellence Day is a day to rejoice Black history and learn about Black stories, Black art, and Black people, and a day to stand in solidarity and Black Canadians

Premier David Eby; Mable Elmore, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives; and Rachna Singh, Minister of Education and Child Care, have released the following statement in honour of Black Excellence Day:

Today, we celebrate the many contributions of Black people and communities throughout our province.

Skittleball!

The grade 5's have been practicing skittle ball since November and games versing other schools will begin in mid January. Students who have been attending practices have been invited to sign a permission slip through school cash online. We will have enough players to form two Sandy Hill teams.

Please see below for the schedule. Team details have been handed out to students as well as it is posted on bulletin board in the foyer outside the gym.

Jungle Gym!

It's that time of year again! The jungle gym is up and students are building strength and skill on gymnastics equipment. Next week grades 3-5 participate in "Ninja School" which is based on parkour and set up as a record breaking activity. The challenge is to apply the jumping and landing skills to the playground so students avoid injury at play:)

Sandy Hill Students Support Sponsor-a-Family Initiative

This holiday season, students from Sandy Hill Elementary gave back to their community and became sponsors for the “Sponsor-a-Family” program through Archway Community Services and the Christmas Bureau. The initiative began mid-November, and for several weeks the school worked towards sponsoring families and seniors in need in Abbotsford over the Christmas season. With an original goal of sponsoring two families, the school quickly surpassed their target thanks to the generosity and donations from the Sandy Hill school community.

Mrs. Adi's class, along with their buddies in Mrs. A. Hall's class, were busy getting into the holiday spirit by making Christmas candy trees.  Merry Christmas everyone!

We wish each and every one of you a safe and enjoyable holiday season and look forward to seeing you in January! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone!

Adopt a Family, Christmas Bureau and Food Bank Results

Wow! Thank you for your continued support!

This month we have been able to donate $716 to Mathew's House and $716 to Canuck Place from the sale of Christmas Concert tickets.  Thank you so much!

Our Adopt a family initiative has also been generously supported by our families and staff.  As a school, we have been able to adopt a family of 6, 2 families of 3, and 3 seniors.

Your generous donations have also filled the bins for the food bank and the Christmas Bureau along with cash donations of over $440.
