The two grade 1 boys won medals: Bennett 2nd place and Archie 3rd place. Imryn and Tyson were strong contenders playing in the grade 2 division. Way to go all four of you!!!! You make Sandy Hill proud! Such focus to play chess at a young age is very impressive. They often choose to play chess during their exploring time in class.

Access zones now in place to protect kids at school

B.C.’s K-12 students and staff will be protected from harassing protesters as the Province enacts access zones around schools.

“Every kid and teacher in our province has the right to go to school without being disrupted by aggressive or hateful protests,” said Premier David Eby. “Our government is taking action to protect kids and ensure schools remain safe spaces by establishing no-go zones for protestors. I want people who think it’s OK to intimidate or harass kids while they’re trying to learn or play at school to know that what you’re doing is now illegal.”

Goodbye Chicks, Hello Butterflies

Some of our Grade 1 and 2 classes have been hosts to chick hatching. In their classroom they have been observing the growth and development of their eggs, watching the eggs hatch and their chicks grow over the past month.

As we say goodbye to these chicks, we welcome butterfly caterpillars to the school and get ready to learn about their life cycle.

Accessible Playground Update

Students continue to amaze us! Two additional groups of students have brought their hard earned after school cookie and lemonade stand money to contribute to the accessible playground addition. Bravo and thank you!

Our Grade 5 students are also running their Freezie Fridays for the rest of the month with all funds raised going towards the addition. Even with the rainy weather last Friday they were able to contribute $412.75.

Thank you for your continued support!

Stoney Creek Salmon Release

Division 18 and 4 walked to Stoney Creek to release the salmon fry that were given to the school as eyed-eggs in January through the Federal Fisheries and Oceans program Salmonids in the Classroom. Each salmon female lays about 3000 eggs. After growing and traveling through the Fraser River to the Pacific Ocean they will return to the same stream a few years later to lay their own eggs.
