Maizy the Therapy Dog

Division 11 is very lucky to be part of the Paws4Stories program through the St.John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. Maizy the dog and her owner Laurie visit Division 11 every Tuesday. The children in the class read books to Maizy and get to pet her gently. We love Maizy!

Returning to School After Travel Outside of Canada

As the border has reopened and more families may be thinking about travel, it is important that you know the current direction we have regarding children under 12 travelling out of Canada with fully vaccinated adults.  While children are not required to fully quarantine when they return, they cannot attend school for 14 days after they return.  On the linked document, is a list of the things children cannot do on return including attend school or daycare for 14 days.  We post this, so you are aware of the 14 day rule currently in place for children under 12 following tra

Board will not require proof of vaccination for staff

At an in-camera meeting on November 2nd, the Abbotsford Board of Education deliberated on the implications of a potential proof of vaccine mandate for all K-12 staff. After careful consideration and discussion, and following the K-12 Sector Guidelines for Vaccination Policies document, the Abbotsford Board of Education has decided not to mandate proof of vaccination for staff.

Soccer is on!

The grade 4-5 cross country runners have completed their last race at the Bateman Parks. We were fortunate to be able to host these races as the district races were cancelled due to the amount of spectators present and our current health situation. Our Sandy Hill Suns finished very strong with many student-athletes reaching their personal best. Thank you to Mrs. Jackie King who assisted with coaching the team and supervising the race.

Board Reviewing Implications of a Potential COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate

At the October 12th Board Meeting, the Abbotsford Board of Education passed a motion to direct staff to review and report on the implications of a vaccine mandate for all K-12 staff.

"We have been advised that the Ministry of Education has convened an advisory committee with partners in the sector to develop common principles, standards and guidelines," said Dr. Stan Petersen, Chair for the Abbotsford Board of Education. "This committee will support boards of education with their decision-making regarding the potential implementation of vaccine mandates."
