Fête de la rentrée at Sandy Hill Elementary
For the second year in a row, Sandy Hill Elementary kicked off the school year with a lively Fête de la rentrée celebration. Inspired by SFU’s Back-to-School French Fete (French Fête de la rentrée)—an annual campus tradition hosted by the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs (OFFA)—Mme Rodriguez introduced the celebration to Sandy Hill, and it has quickly become a highlight for the school community.
With help from the PAC in organizing, more than 440 students enjoyed music from a DJ, poutine, prizes, and activities that showcased French culture and community spirit.
“This is an opportunity in our dual track schools to explore French culture, food, and activities to celebrate the beginning of the school year and experience the joie de vivre of francophonie,” shared Natalie De Wit, Conseillère pédagogique en Immersion M-12.
The event reflects the Abbotsford School District’s focus on building welcoming and inclusive school communities. Sandy Hill’s Fête de la rentrée created joyful memories for students while laying the foundation for a positive year of learning and connection.
