Students Donation to Accessible Playground

Community Coming Together

June 10, 2024

At the beginning of the year the PAC decided that their fundraising goal was $80,000 for an accessible playground addition. Unfortunately, even with generous private donations they have not been able to hit that goal so they have pivoted to a two phased approach.

Our grounds crew has prepared the foundation and the latest update is that phase one playground equipment is to arrive at the end June! So many events have taken place to make this happen.

The fine group of students pictured above has now made THREE separate donations from their after school and weekend stands selling lemonade and their homemade crafts. Their latest donation was $52. Amazing! Thank you for your generosity.

As their legacy project, our grade 5 students organized and sold freezies at lunch on Fridays for the month of May with a total of $1705.10 in donations.

Once a month, staff set up our gym and hold a dance party where students donate a dollar (or more) to participate. So far, a total of over $2900 has been raised in the Funky Friday Dance Parties!

Proceeds from the Annual Carnaval went towards the accessible playground as well as our PAC has held raffles and bake sales and are currently collecting gently used Sandy Hill swag to be resold at a discounted price.

It seems that the accessible playground addition has not only touched the hearts of our Sandy Hill Elementary students and school community. As a wonderful surprise Robert Bateman Secondary School’s Art Activism program will be donating their year end show admission to the accessible playground addition. Thank you so very much for your continued support!
