Principals Weekly Bulletin

Dear Sandy Hill Parents and Guardians,

Last week Sandy Hill teachers reached out to you via telephone to check in on how you are doing and to let you know that we miss you all! While the school has been busy with staff stopping by to pack students’ belongings, access resources, learn new technological skills or meet with me, we are missing the laughter and energy of your children. We are missing their enthusiasm, curiosity, and wonder for learning too!  We also look forward to learning together with you and your children while navigating through the unchartered territories of teaching distantly in a pandemic.

We thank you for your patience as we learn alongside your children. We are beginning our second week of planning for continuity of learning within a pandemic and we learn more each day. Our staff have been exploring options of how to support your child’s learning at home. While earlier this year we did not anticipate needing to teach very young children how to learn through video conferences, we will be learning alongside the children. Your feedback on how well the technology is working will be greatly important to us, so please let us know of any challenges or concerns as they arise. Families should be hearing from their teachers early this week about schedules and learning opportunities. If you have not heard from your child’s teacher by Thursday morning, please reach out to them yourself as there may be a glitch in the contact information.

Given we are in the midst of a pandemic the health and safety of our students and their families together with the health and safety of all our staff is our top priority. We are reminding everyone, adults included, to wash their hands, to not to touch their faces, and to remain at least two meters from others so that we can slow down the spread of the virus. Staff will continue emphasizing this message with their students over the coming weeks, and they will also let them know how important they are in helping keep everyone safe. Please let your child’s teachers or me know if illness or changing circumstances is having a negative impact on him or her. There is a range of resources available through, the Canadian government site and the B.C. Covid-19 site.

We are learning more each day and as the circumstances change in the province and country, governmental and public health orders can change. As we learn more about supporting learning at a distance, our programs and schedules will evolve. To help us all navigate these uncharted waters, a weekly Principal’s Bulletin will be published updating and connecting with families, sharing the latest information available to us. Additionally, I ask that you not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers if you have questions regarding lessons or supports. And if you have questions pertaining to day care, availability of technology to support learning, or any other related concerns, please do send me an email:

Take care,

Marie VanDalfsen
